More than 436,000 people (including spouses and dependents) throughout South Carolina are insured through one of the health plans offered by PEBA Insurance Benefits. More than 171,000 of these are active employees, and more than 73,000 are retirees.

The South Carolina Public Employee Benefit Authority provides retirement and insurance benefits to the state's public workforce and performs fiduciary and administrative duties to oversee the contributions and disbursements for these benefits.
